4th Beta Coming Soon...

Click for Larger Image

Manu and I are hoping to release to you all very soon, a new beta with better builds, better decos, and better performance overall (including a fixed Brooklyn bridge). There are no new EP requirements so World Adventures, Ambitions, and Late Night are still all that is required. You must also be patched up to at least 1.29

The new beta will also make use of Ani's Shop Mod and her Clothing Store Mod. The world cannot and does not include either mod so if you don't want to use them, you'll simply have a lot of regularly functioning WA registers around town : ). I've simply prepped a bunch of shops for use with her mods. This way New York City will be as interactive as it should be despite EA not providing us with proper shops.

Project Still Going Strong: New Beta Out Around Christmas

I recently had someone ask whether or not this project has been abandoned. Of course, it has not. Currently I'm working on brownstones for the Brooklyn area and Manu is working on details for the world as well as fixing the issues we find along the way (Including that dastardly bridge issue!). And again, a new Beta will be released near the end of December. I realize I have not been posting much. Perhaps I will put up some image posts in the near future...

You can keep more up to date on what I'm working on Here

Can your Computer Run New York City?

I see much consternation about the specs required to play this city. Let me reassure everybody that my pc is very modest. I have a 2.1 Ghz processor and 3GB of RAM. Additionally Manu is able to run this world with 2GB of RAM

One of the main considerations in creating this world was and is to focus on performance. It is easily what has been the most difficult aspect of making this world, but I feel sure that this world is able to run on almost any computer

So, try it out, (hopefully) enjoy, and let us know what you think.

    Updated Custom Content

First off, I think you should read this post

I have updated the CC for New York (Thanks again TSR) but other issues have arisen

Nonetheless, the download link can be found below:

    Bridge Issues After Patch (1.26)

For whatever reason, after patching up to 1.26, I have discovered that new routing issues have manifested. Primarily, sims getting stuck on the freeway in New Jersey.

    Thank God For....TSR?!

Yes the much defamed TSR team has come to our rescue

The new tool, TSR Pets CC Bug Fixer (TSR RigFix) is now tested, documented and ready for you to use to fix your Sims 3 Custom Content after installing Pets or patching the game. Go to the Fix Your Game page to get the tool and follow the simple instructions. By including step by step screenshots we seem to have made the process look more complicated than it really is but this should make even the most nervous PC users feel comfortable fixing their content. That said, be sure to back your game files up and use this tool carefuly (and at your own risk).
Unfortunately this tool will not work for Mac users. Fixed sims3packs can be downloaded from the site and these will work on your Mac. You could also copy your Sims3pack files to a PC and fix them all in one batch to drop back onto your Mac, so there are ways to fix your game, but not as quick and easy I'm afraid.
We will try and offer as much support as we can for this tool to our users via the Support System here at the site. Please be aware though, we might get lots of requests and reports about a common bug so generic answers and fixes might mean that you don't get a personal reply. Please check back for updates if you have problems.

    Lies! All Lies!!!!

I guess this means I'll have to be patching up here pretty soon : (

In the meantime, the uncompressed version of the file that needs fixing, can be found in the previous post; "Custom Content and Patch 1.26"

Custom Content and Patch 1.26 (1.27 for Macs)

It appears that the latest Sims 3 Patch has broken many many CC items. All items that have slots on them seem to no longer function properly. A quote from Inge Jones:

"Any CC that sims interact with or players place things into slots of (including chairs round tables) is now non-functioning.  Or, it's functioning in some very amusing ways." ...So yeah, pretty much everything

EDIT: EVERYTHING HAS BEEN UPDATED AND CAN BE FOUND HERE:

    New Builds by HappyJme

One of my favorite worlds from long ago was Overlook Bay. One of My favorite builders from that project was HappyJme and I recently asked him if he would do a few lots for New York.

Here are some of those lots

    New Lots for Download

Because some of these didn't make it into the 3rd BETA. I figured I'd just make them available for download. This way, any issues can (hopefully) be found before they're placed in the final version. Placement is included in the download archive. I will be updating this post with new builds periodically...

    Brooklyn Brownstones

I am about to begin building 5-10 brownstone homes for Brooklyn, and am open to suggestions. If you have any, please post the images on the Official Thread (clickable link) or link me to them in the comments section below.

If you would like to contribute a lot yourself, please take a few images of both the exterior and interior and post them on the ModTheSims Thread or send them to me via private message. The lot sizes are 15 x 20 and one 30 x 20.

For anyone wondering where to find the cornices, they were created by Sarah and can be found at her site Awesims. They are fully re-colorable

Find Routing Issues Quickly and Easily

Note: This is not an update on the New York World but something I would like to make the community aware of.

Using 'Overwatch', Twallan has now devised a way to find and eliminate all routing issues simply by play testing and waiting for the notifications to pop up.

Below is a step by step on how to use this new feature:

    A Few New Venues

Here are some more lots that I've been working on. I'm not sure that these will be in the latest Beta but they will definitely be in the final version, or at least some variation of them.

    Yet Another Small Update

All building (for now) is completed. The next time consuming task to be done is to check the routing. If there are no freezes, the new Beta should be released within the next few days. However, if there are freezes, we will have to find the source before the world can be released, this can take a little bit in such a large world.

We now have the routing at a near optimal level, however, for a reason unknown to me, with each new export comes a lot or 2 that cannot be entered and/or exited. The solution is simple enough but I suspect this time will be no different, so please be patient for just a little while longer. Also, if any experienced world builders know why this occurs, it would be nice to hear from you

    The Five Boroughs

Because I know how much it sucks to wait for a world, here are some more pics from around the city (and this time much better quality because I didn't take them)

This time we will take a look around each borough:

    A Look Around The City

In anticipation of the new beta release, which is coming very soon due to less complications than expected, I thought I would show you a few of the venues your sims will be frequenting:

    Only Good News

It has been quicker than what i thought, but i did that fix in caw (now there are no more isolated routing paths). Now, it's impossible for non plaiyng sims to spawn in those points and get stuck. I checked each and every area and now the routing looks fine; those spots were majorly in areas surrounded by fences (sims couldn't get in or out) and between small objects like cranes and junk piles. Now it should be all about in-lot routing corrections

The New Beta: Good News and Bad

So, since you're reading this blog, I assume you're aware that a new beta is soon to be released. As the title indicates, there is both good and bad news about the new NYC beta. I can say first hand that the world does indeed run smoother, but there are several lot replacements to make. Some are for better performance and some are to better fit the look of the world.

Manu has also found many small breaks in the world routing. These fixes will improve the world's performance but they can be very time consuming to address. This thread will explain what he is doing:

    http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=439329

This will take a few weeks to address overall but it will be well worth the wait.

    Questions? Concerns?
